Xperia E3 (D2243) won't root?

I followed Vinay's steps for root and recovery on a Sony Xperia E3, however after the root fix reboot SuperSU isn't installed and obviously I can't access any root only functionality. The phone is on KitKat (4.4.4/18.5.0.25), stock rom. I believe the stock rom may be blocking it (although I could be wrong since recovery should have priority over it) and the only thing stopping me from installing a custom rom is the lack of DTV support, because the phone belongs to a relative. The reason for rooting is because his phone is too bloated, updating all apps and installing a few more just use all storage.
