Are there any custom ROMS that can improve a battery life?

I am looking to get a custom ROM and honestly one biggest concerns is battery life.

Does any of major/minor ROM out there have special kernel or software built in to improve battery life?

Conversely, what ROM out there have fancy features that eat up battery life faster (going to avoid those)?
