Samsung Galaxy S9 Retail Box Reportedly Leaked, Shows Stereo Speakers, Super Speed Camera with Variable Aperture, and More

Many people were hoping that the Samsung Galaxy S9 would make an appearance at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, but as the convention wore on, it became clear that it wasn't going to happen. Initial reports suggested the S9 would make a cameo at Samsung's press event, but subsequent rumors cast doubt on them, and company executives eventually confirmed that the Galaxy S9 wouldn't be unveiled until Mobile World Congress 2018 in February. But thanks to a leaked photograph of a purported Galaxy S9 retail box, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect.

Judging by the photo, the Galaxy S9 has a IP68 water- and dust-resistant body, an iris scanner, and a screen that measures 5.8 inches across diagonally, or 5.6 inches when you account for the rounded corners. The panel's sAMOLED — the kind Samsung's used in other flagship Galaxy smartphones — with a Quad HD+ resolution.

The box tells us that the Galaxy S9 has stereo speakers tuned by AKG (an upgrade from the Galaxy S8's single rear-mounted speaker), and that it'll ship with a pair of AKG-tuned headphones. It also reveals that the Galaxy S9's rear camera is a "Super Speed Dual Pixel" 12MP sensor with F1.5/F2.4 variable aperture, optical image stabilization (OIS) capabilities, and "Super Slo-mo" shooting modes, and that it's paired with a 8MP autofocus selfie camera on the front.

In terms of other internals, Galaxy S9 has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, according to the box.

The photograph certainly looks convincing, but it should be taken with a grain. It's from an unproven source, and while we generally refrain from publishing these sorts of rumors, the box's specs match leaked press renders that have been making rounds recently.

Luckily, it won't be long before everything's made official.
