Running a 5.1.1 cog 5

I'm Running a 5.1.1 cog 5 rom. I'm looking to update to something newer but see some stories about problems when people upgrade. Is it worth it? Any threads to help or point me in the right direction. I'm pretty good with Odin and was a chronic flasher with my s3 and s4. So I know a decent amount but have been out of the game this past year.
